A full trailer has finally hit for Alejandro Iñarritu’s Biutiful, which debuted at Cannes earlier this year and earned Javier Bardem a share of the Best Actor award at the festival. I’m still not really sure what the hell this is about, but on the surface it looks like Iñarritu, working back in his native language for the first time in 10 years, may have recaptured some of the energy that made his debut feature Amores Perros so much better than his later self-important dramas, 21 Grams and Babel. Reviews at Cannes were mixed, but a little dissent just makes things all the more intriguing, right?
Meanwhile, Columbia Pictures continues to roll out a smart, anticipation-building campaign for The Social Network, finally giving us a look at some actual footage after a couple of clever teasers. The dialogue is basically the same as the last one I posted, but now we finally see what Fincher’s visual style for the film, and I have to say, I’m pleased as punch. I wasn’t sure how a legal drama would suit Fincher’s penchant for shadows and queasy lighting, but there it is; which makes me realize how wrong I was to ever think the project was a strange fit. What better director out there to go after the dark, seedy underbelly of a quick-fame story like Zuckerberg’s?

Why is Justin Timberlake in that movie? I am SO excited. When is it supposed to come out?
I’m not sure why they cast Timberlake, but I find it kind of ironic that he’s playing Sean Parker, co-founder of Napster. Release date is October 1! The only thing I’m worried about with this is Jesse Eisenberg – he looks like he’s using the same geek persona that he always does, and I can’t tell how well that fits with the tone Fincher is clearly trying to set. Oh well, too soon to see. I like the looks of Andrew Garfield, though.
