I’m not sure how I missed this one back when I was writing up my Most Anticipated Films of 2010 feature, but I can tell you that it rocketed up the list as soon as I found out about it. It’s Kind of a Funny Story is the third feature the co-writer/co-director husband and wife team Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who previously were responsible for Half Nelson (which should’ve won Ryan Gosling and made a star out of Shareeka Epps) and Sugar (last year’s most unsung masterpiece and one of the greatest movies about sports ever made). We can trust this team to give us a unique and touching take on what at first glance appears to be your usual coming-of-age story. While I’m a little tired of seeing Zack Galifianakis EVERYWHERE since The Hangover, this looks like an excellent role for him.
