On the heels of the new poster the other day, Focus Features has put out the first trailer for Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere. It looks very much like she’s back in Lost in Translation territory; will that end up feeling like a return to form, or will it seem old hat? I’m cautiously excited.
Then, the Swedes are wasting no time in cranking out all three films in the adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s smash hit Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Even as the first film has started to fade out of art-house theaters, distributors are already hyping the second installment, The Girl Who Played with Fire (all 3 films were filmed at the same time; the studios are obviously trying to capitalize on this series while its at its full height of exposure). I enjoyed the first film, finding it akin to a good David Fincher thriller like Se7en; no surprise, of course, that Fincher is planning to direct the Hollywood remake. While that’s a suitable choice if they really must do a remake, I still can’t really imagine any known Hollywood actress playing the role of Lisbeth Salander as with as much raw power and emotion as Noomi Rapace.
