The Must-See 500: The Full List

This will not be a post that you will want to read word for word, start to finish. Despite its length, this will not be a post that tells you much of anything about the films I mention; if I took the time for plot descriptions and comments, I’d be here until January. Besides, I’ll be posting detailed reviews of many of these films as I see them, as I did with In Cold Blood a couple days ago.

What this is, is my list of 500 Must-See Films; a list compiled by comparing a number of various Best Of and Critics’ Choice lists. Is this every great, must-see film ever? Hells no. Do I have much of any reason to justify what got on this list and what didn’t? Beyond personal preference and general consensus, no. Is there any ranking system? No. This is simply a reference tool, a quick guide to the classics of every genre, the most acclaimed, popular, influential and controversial films of all time. The point is, if you have the chance to watch one of these films, you probably should. I use it to further my continued film education; hopefully you’ll use it to get a couple hours of quality entertainment.

One more word, about the modern films: obviously, judging the historical impact of recent films is extremely difficult. It is nearly impossible to say which films will stand the test of time; the ones I have chosen from the 2000’s are, again, tainted somewhat by personal preference, but are also generally those that appeared on the greatest number of Best of the Decade lists.
